I think you have done an outstanding job describing the dichotomy of psychiatric care in terms of helpful/relational vs intensifying fears and feeling inhumanized. There is something about being locked in a cage that brings out an animal fear and fury, too. A locked psych ward is very similar to a cage when someone is already having difficulties.
